Hello Sewing Friends! Tamar here from Tamar Hope Designs! Easter is my favorite time of year! So it naturally follows that I love sewing Easter dresses!!! This year I had a really fun idea for a little added detail on Rose, and I love how it turned out! It’s really a very simple hack to add a ribbon to a waistband, but it makes for such a sweet finish.

Do you want to make your own ribbon waistband? Follow along for all the details!
First, iron lightweight interfacing to the waistband pieces.

Next, center your ribbon on the waistband and trace the edges of the ribbon with removable ink.

Now, draw lines ½ inch away from the center of your front waistband starting and stopping at the lines made in the previous step. Starting from these lines measure out 3 inches, draw a line, then measure out 1 inch and draw another line. Repeat this all the way across your waistband alternating between 1 inch and 3 inch spaces. Line your back waistband pieces up with your front waistband piece and overlap them by ⅜ inch to account for the side seams. Continue measuring and drawing lines until you reach the ends of the waistband pieces.

Sew button holes along the lines drawn in the previous step.

Sew the bodice of the dress according to the instructions in the Rose tutorial. When you get to step 17, stop sewing along the back seam 3 inches before the end of the back seam.

Cut open the button holes and thread the ribbon through the holes as shown.

Baste the ribbon to the dress at the ends.

Tie the ribbon in a bow and trim the ribbon to the desired length. Finish the ends of the ribbon by either hemming or singeing the edges.

Pin or clip the lining to the main along the back seam right sides together. Finish sewing this seam.

Finish sewing the dress following the instructions in the tutorial for Rose.

This is such an easy way to add a special touch to your next dress!
Happy Sewing!!!
