Hello sewing friends!
It's Tamar from Tamar Hope Designs back on the blog with some sweet little stocking stuffer ideas for you! I am always a big fan of handmade holidays. The gift means so much more when the giver takes the time to carefully craft it with love. However, sometimes it's hard to come up with handmade ideas that will actually get used! I've got you covered this year with three stocking stuffer ideas that are both cute and practical. And, incidentally, they are also great scrap busters!! They can each be a stand alone gift, or they can be combined into one stocking stuffer that's a little extra!
Today I'll show you how to make the key fob and the chapstick holder. Come back next week for the wallet tutorial!
For the key fob, you will need:
Woven fabric scraps at least 11” long
Cut:
Cut two rectangles 11” x 1.5”
If using a lightweight woven such as quilting cotton or cotton lawn, interface both pieces with woven interfacing such as pellon shape flex. If using a heavier woven material such as canvas, you don't need interfacing.
Sew:
Sew the two rectangles right sides together along the long sides using a ¼” seam allowance.
Trim seam allowances to ⅛”
Turn right side out and topstitch
Using a pliers, carefully press the key fob hardware over the raw edges of the fabric. Place scrap fabric between the pliers and the hardware to protect the hardware.
And that's all there is to that! I love key fobs because they are pretty, and they help prevent your keys from getting lost in the bottom of your bag!!
Next up, a chapstick holder! No more washing your chapstick with your jeans!!!
For the chapstick holder, you will need:
Woven fabrics scraps
Cut:
Cut out two of the pattern piece.
If using a lightweight woven such as quilting cotton or cotton lawn, interface both pieces with woven interfacing such as pellon shape flex. If using a heavier woven material such as canvas, you don't need interfacing.
Sew:
Sew the two pieces right sides together leaving an opening for turning. Tip: to make the next step easier and neater, pivot and sew to the edges of the fabric on either side of the opening.
Turn right side out and fold the bottom up 2 ½”
Topstitch around the entire chapstick holder, going back and forth over the top part of the pocket to reinforce.
Install snaps on the snap placement guides. Any type of snap will work.
Snap the top over a key ring
Now repeat in all your favorite fabrics!!!
You can gift this as is or combine it with the keyfob for a fun and practical gift idea!
Happy Christmas Sewing!!!
