Hey friends!! Violet is already gorgeous with the front bib bodice, ruffle and puff sleeves but wanted something extra to make it a bit more of a special occasion dress. Today I am going to show you how I added a big bow to the back of my daughter's Easter dress using the violet pattern.
Supplies Needed
Violet Pattern (You can purchase it here)
2 - 10" x 35" strips of fabric for the sash (You can shorten or lengthen depending on the size you are making and look you are going for.)
Step One: Fold the sash in half, lengthwise with right sides together and press. Repeat this with the other sash piece.
Step Two: Fold one corner of the sash down until it meet the fold you made in step one. Repeat this step with the other sash piece.
Step Three: Sew along the diagonal side and long side of the sash.
Step Four: Clip the corners and trim the seam allowance 1/4" (6mm).
Step Five: Turn the sash right side out and press well. Topstitch around the sash on all sides except the raw edge.
Step Six: Sew two gathering stitch along the raw edge of the sash. Gather to be about 1-2" in width.
Step Seven: Lay the sash on top of the front main bodice with the diagonal facing down. The sash should be 1/2" from the bottom raw edge of the bodice. Baste in place.
Step Eight: Place the back bodice on top of the front bodice, aligning the raw edges. Sew along the side seams.
Step Nine: Turn the bodice right side out and continue following the pattern instructions to complete your dress.
